About the event
nstructor: BHA Judge Jane McLaughlin This is an introductory Seminar to the sport of barn hunt. Your dog will start to learn what the quarry smells like, work on climbing the straw/hay bales and tunneling skills. We will focus on indicating the quarry and handling techniques. All this helps prepare you for your first test, by explaining procedures and the barn hunt rules. This seminar covers the Instinct (RATI) and Novice (RATN) levels of barn hunt. What can beginner dogs expect to learn in the seminar? In a small group, Jane will lead you & your dog step by step from the concept of recognizing the quarry in the tube to finding the hidden live tube in the straw bales. Your dog can discover his natural hunting instincts in a safe and constructive way. You will start to recognize your dog's behaviour when it locates the safely tubed rat. Locating the correct tube in the course takes place off leash in a fully fenced area. What is required for the seminar? All dogs that come to the seminar must show proof of vaccines or titers and not have any aggression issues. Handlers must bring a pair of clean rubbber-soled indoor shoes, a crate for their dog (can crate in the training hall), treats, and a sense of humour!
